College Farm

Clonakilty Agriculture College comprises of 140 hectares (346 acres). One hundred and twelve (112 Ha) hectares are available for farming. Individual farm units are devoted to dairying, cattle, suckler herd, sheep, tillage crops and horses. Each Lecturer carries responsibility for the farm enterprises in which he/she lectures.  This has the advantage of ensuring that the teaching is based on practical farming experience.

All the units on the farm are run to benefit student training, to maximise profit and to reflect the practices adopted on commercial farms.  The adoption of practices and products on the farms also reflect up-to-date Teagasc research and advice.  However the systems also give students a hands-on approach to learning.

Pat Hennessy - Farm Steward

The uncertainty of when the County Council will occupy 16 Ha for building makes long term planning of the enterprises difficult .Land for renting locally does become available and this option should be seriously considered when it becomes available .
