6)
Course Aim
The course provides in-depth knowledge of Dairying and the Dairying industry. It is designed to ensure that graduates acquire the high level of technical and managerial skills required to run a modern commercial dairy farm or to gain employment in the Agri-business sector, or farm management.
Location
This one-year course is offered at Clonakilty Agricultural College. Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) delivers some of the course work one day per week. |

Entry Requirements
Students who have completed the FETAC Certificate in
Agriculture (Level 5) in any Agricultural College are eligible to apply. Apply directly to Clonakilty Agricultural College, Clonakilty Co. Cork. Selection for places is by interview, which is held in June/July each year.
Course Structure & Content
The Course is offered by Clonakilty Agricultural College in conjunction with Cork Institute of
Technology (CIT) It is run over one full year and provides an indebt knowledge of dairying, the dairy industry and financial management.
Stage I 1st September –
Mid February
The topics covered include Farm Business Management, Computers, IT, Marketing and Law, as well as a range of subjects pertaining to practical farming and financial management.
Stage II 1st March – 31st May
The course includes 12 weeks placement with opportunities to complete work experience in USA, New Zealand, Australia,
or Europe.
Graduates of this course return to their home farms or have other rewarding careers in Farm Management., Department of Agriculture and Food, Computing Firms, Co-ops, Service Industries as well as starting their own businesses.

Classification of Awards
When calculating the average % mark
for the award individual module marks will be weighted by the
number of credits for the module. Awards
at "Merit" or "Distinction" will only be
awarded to candidates who pass at least 9 modules at the first
attempt. Students who have to repeat module assessments for more
than 2 modules cannot receive a "Merit" or
"Distinction" award.
