Advanced Certificate in Agriculture

This is the principal course run at Clonakilty Agricultural College and is
accredited by FETAC. Modules covering the main farming enterprises are
taught. Students receive instruction in the theory and practice of farming
with an opportunity to apply this knowledge while working on the College
farm and during placement with Host Farmers. This Certificate is achieved by completing the Level 5 and Level 6 courses.

Year 1 - Level 5 - Certificate in Agriculture

This is a one-year course consisting 20 weeks in College followed by 12 weeks work placement on master farms in Ireland. It is suitable for people who wish to make their career in farming but who do not wish to complete a third level course. Applicants must be 17 years of age on 1st January following entry to the course. Students choose a cluster of elective modules, for more information please see the table below. 

Year 2 - Level 6 - Advanced Certificate in Agriculture
To take this Level 6 course a person must already have achieved a Level 5 Certificate. Students spend 52 weeks on home farm involvement. Four weeks are spent on course work in the College. On successful completion of the Level 6 course students are awarded the FETAC Advanced Certificate in Agriculture. This award meets the training requirements for Stamp Duty exemption and for Installation Aid.

  • Applications for entry to this course is made directly to Clonakilty College
  • Applicants must be 17 years of age on 1st January following entry to the course.
